Dr. Allen Reasons was born to a coach and a teacher of special needs children in Nashville, Tennessee. He and his wife Laurie celebrated 35 years of marriage this summer; and they are the proud parents of two children, Katherine and Preston. Katherine has brought into the family her husband Eric and their child James. Dr. Reasons was graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. His major discipline in his Ph.D. studies was Christian Ethics, with secondary studies in theology and homiletics.
Thirty-six years of ministry included his service as the Senior Minister of five different churches in Texas, Missouri, and West Virginia. Dr. Reasons and his wife Laurie received the S. Ward and Evangel Robinson Ministerial Team Award from Alderson-Broaddus College for effective husband/wife ministry. In addition to fulfilling his calling in the local church, Dr. Reasons taught hundreds of seminarians in three different seminaries. His classes included the subjects of ethics, preaching, theology, and leadership. He authored two books of his sermons and was published in ten commentary studies in which he wrote Bible study lessons. He was regularly requested to write responses to church ethical dilemmas, which were published in several Baptist publications around the country under the title, “Right or Wrong?” As a member of the Commission on Christian Ethics of the Baptist World Alliance, he contributed to professional papers that were presented in Izmir, Turkey, and Jamaica.
His greatest faith celebration occurred when the Reasons’ daughter and son accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. His greatest hope anticipation is praying for his grandson James’ acceptance of Christ. His greatest love blessing is that God brought Laurie into his life and graced them with decades of ministry together.
