Children's ministry

Welcome! Our goal at FAB is to provide a safe, loving, and faith-filled atmosphere for our children. The children's ministry provides age-appropriate Bible studies, worship services, mission opportunities, fellowship events, and other activities to nurture our children as they grow in stature and in faith. We want our children to feel at home in the church, to recognize their brothers and sisters in Christ as family, and to be dedicated servants of Christ their entire lives.

For more information or to be added to our Remind Text group or Parents Facebook group, email Rachael Gibson.

The church + home = greater impact

Light (yellow) + Love (red) = Orange

We can DO MORE TOGETHER to make a difference in the life of every child.

FABkids partners with families to help children discover who Jesus is and

develop a relationship with Him that is real and personal.

We believe every child is made in the image of God to love God with all their heart, soul, strength, and to trust Jesus for a better future.

The Orange curriculum engages children through wonder, discovery, and passion to come alongside parents with resources to carry faith-filled teaching and life into the week.

SUNDAY MORNINGS @9:30am

Our Sunday School time is spent teaching children the basics of studying God's Word for themselves.

Children will meet on the 3rd floor, in the Worship Room.

tiny disciples

Our youngest disciples are cared for in a loving, play-centered environment.

A Bible story is introduced every week for all ages.

A typical class will include play time, snacks, story time, age-appropriate crafts and games

Nursery is currently provided during the 10:45 worship hour for ages 0-3.

second hour worship

for k-5

Children above nursery age are invited to begin worship in the sanctuary with their parents at 10:45. During "Our Future," our weekly children's sermon, the children ages 4-5th grade are invited to the front of the sanctuary. After The Future, they are welcome to go with our children's ministry leaders for Second Hour worship. Children can be picked up by their guardian in room 309, the Nancy Brannon Room.

During this time, the children continue the lesson from our Family Experience [FX] with songs, Bible story with life application, games, and crafts.

Sunday evenings

Once a month our children and families gather together for a Family Mission to show love to our neighbors at FAB, in our community, or around the world. We spend time in fellowship, play, and worship.

To stay in the know about our Family Missions and Children's Ministry events, check out our weekly newsletter or the private Facebook group for our families. Questions? Contact Rachael Gibson.

Wednesday evenings

On Wednesdays, we have Family Dinner at 5:00pm, followed by M&Ms for our FABKids. During this hour, our children will learn about God's Word through different mediums: music, movement, masterpieces, missions, and scripture memorization. Our monthly themes will correlate with our Second Hour Worship on Sunday mornings!

*The FABYouth have Worship at 6:00pm in the FABLab & the Adult Bible Study is in the Fellowship Hall. There's something happening for the whole family, so let's grow together!

beyond THE COLUMNS

We want our children to feel at home when they are at church, and we also want them to realize the importance of being church outside our building.

During the summer, our children and their families gather at different spots throughout our city for Bible study, fellowship, and mission activities. Our annual Vacation Bible School, held each June, is an opportunity for children to introduce their friends and neighbors to our church family. Check The Columns for upcoming Family Mission opportunities.

FAQs

If you have a question that isn't answered below, email faboffice@fifthavenuebaptist.org.

My infant is coming to the church nursery for the first time. What should I bring?

Your diaper bag should contain extra clothes, food, and a pacifier if needed. Please label all items to ensure their safe return. If you have any special feeding instructions, let our nursery workers know when you drop off your child.

Who are your volunteers?

All of our volunteers have received special training on the protection of children and undergo regular background checks. Only approved volunteers are allowed to care for children at FAB. To further ensure your children's safety, we ask that you sign in your children at our check-in station, noting any allergies and special instructions. Upon check-in, you and your children will receive matching stickers. When you pick up your children, present your sticker to our volunteers.

How are children's classes divided?

Our children are separated by age for some activities, but we also meet frequently as a larger group to encourage children of different ages to grow in faith together. Currently, due to COVID-19, our attendance is lower, and our children's classes are combined until we phase back all of our teachers and volunteers.

  • Infants & Toddlers ages 0-3
  • Preschoolers-3rd grade
  • 3rd grade and up: Our 3rd-5th graders are invited forward for Our Future, and are invited to continue worship in the sanctuary with their parents. Currently, they are welcome to attend Second Hour if they prefer.
Do you require masks for children?
During this time we are following a mask-on policy for all, vaccinated and unvaccinated. We will adhere to this precaution as long as Cabell County is considered a "red zone."
